A great start by
Tammy D from Atlanta, Ga
Sailing date: Jun 2010 Pros:
Overall experience was great
Cons:
Dancers were not as polished as I would expected and 70/80's night in the disco were awful. DJ played five ten minute techno disco music. No one danced. He did not speak to the crowd and obiviously did not care that no one was happy with his choices.
Service crew were outstanding. Walter and Wi in the Universe DInning room were spectacular. Housekeeping did a great job

A great experience by
Colleen B. from Louisville, KY
Sailing date: May 2010 Pros:
I like the dinners on the cruise.
Cons:
I didn't like how loud the pool area was. You could hardly hear anything other than the really loud music when I was out there.
The ship was very clean and spacious. We really enjoyed our room, which had window. We were surprised by how large it was, and how quickly it was cleaned in the morning.
There were a lot of different things to do on the ship, but we enjoyed the elegant dinners in the evening the best. The food was fantastic, and our servers were incredible. By the end of the week we felt like they were a part of our group!
Ship Quality
Dining/Food We enjoyed the food in the dining rooms, but didn't like the buffets.
Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff Quality The staff was wonderful.
Entertainment & Activities Some of the entertainment was very good, but the last night the show was horrible.
Collapse List of Ports
Cozumel, Mexico Our excursion was great. We could not have had better tour guides.
I didn't like the shopping area at the port. It was very "Disney World" and didn't feel like we ever left the U.S. I wish we would have been able to go into town and shop there. However, no one would really help us figure out how to get there.
Don't Miss: Discover Mexico and Chukhaah (not sure of the spelling)
Key West, Florida We went to Truman's White Houe. It was wonderful. I highly recommend it. We would have liked to take the trolley tour, but we ran out of time.
Don't Miss: Truman

Last Minute Itinerary Change by
Greg D from Salt Lake City, UT
Sailing date: Nov 2009 Pros:
I went with many family member who had never cruised.
Cons:
Carnival changed the itinerary dramatically the day before we left on the cruise.
Our entire family had a Thanksgiving cruise planned for months and the day before the cruise, Carnival called us while we were at our layover in the airport the day before the cruise and changed our itinerary from going to Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands to the Bahamas and they only gave us a $50 credit due to this! We left from Miami and we went to the Bahamas which was only a couple of hundred miles away so we didn't :"cruise" much at all. The $50 was a slap in the face for the major change and no one at Carnival was helpful at all! Do not travel with Carnival!
Ship Quality The ship was clean but wasn't working correctly.

Don't Waste Your Hard Earned Money$$$ by
Den R from Marco Island, FL
Sailing date: Nov 2008 Pros:
Good Stateroom Service
Cons:
Food in ALL Outlets ~ HORRIBLE!
We put off cruising on this ship due to the reputation of being a "party ship". We found this wasn't the case, however, the quality of both the food and staff was what was most disappointing. Both my husband and I noticed a big "push" to purchase alcholic drinks... mostly on the outdoor decks. We like to have a cocktail, but even with a full drink, they'd ask if you wanted another one! Obviously this is a revenue maker for them. The dining room food was no better than the slop they served at the buffet, and the staff showed they were either tired or just didn't care. It was no different in the buffet. Our stateroom attendant was the ONLY positive to our cruise experience on the Carnival Destiny. We will NEVER cruise this line again... too many other great cruise lines that are far superior in every way.
Ship Quality Ship really needs to be refurbished NOW... very old and dated. They had separate dining rooms that were in two totally different areas and difficult to FIND because of the layout. Bad space planning.
Dining/Food No ambience, food was of the lowest quality, service was horrible and you could see that the wait staff was not well trained... it almost seemed like their first day on the job! To order a glass of wine or a soda at dinner was also a joke... it took over 20 minutes to get the drinks. No attention to detail with the table service. Had to ask to get more water or bread. Poor, poor quality of staff and food overall. The buffet was even worse with LONG lines even if you just wanted to get some fresh fruit and cereal... poor planning of the food setup.
Stateroom Quality For the age of the ship, the stateroom was very clean and our attendant was the bright spot on this ship! Paid attention to all the details and we always had clean towels and fresh items in our room... BRAVO!!! Very happy we booked a balcony room as it was tiny and cramped and we can't imagine what one of the regular rooms would have felt like.
Ship Staff Quality Amazing, we actually watched one of the servers in the buffet area walk past and over a napkin on the floor for over half hour, not even bothering to pick it up! Not well trained and lacked friendliness toward passengers.. the only ones who were outgoing were the "activities" staff... guess they figured it was their job and the rest didn't care!
Entertainment & Activities The "live" band on the Lido deck was horrid... every song they sang, they killed with putting a reggae spin on it! We like island music, but variety is the spice of life! We went to the first show and it was so bad, we never went back... The outdoor "movie screen" was actually a nice touch and they had a couple of movies for both the kids and teens and then a music concert... that was good!

"couples, and food lovers beware" by
carolina y from san diego
Sailing date: Dec 2007 Pros:
the ports amazing!!!!
Cons:
food, and couples activities
We had a great time, but this was our first cruise and I did a lot of research about this cruise and how it was a party ship and fun. However, as a couple we were bored on this ship. They had lots of activities, but it was mostly for the kids/teens and family. We went on our own and other couples seemed reluctant to get to know others, so it was a little akward.
There were too many ports of call, which doesnt allow much time for rest and in all honestly we were a little disappointed with puerto rico. We will not be choosing a port out from puerto rico again. if you go its worth paying the money for a good hotel prior to cruising and dont go to the comfort inn yuck!!!!
On carnival the employees were great, but the food not so fabulous, unless you decided to sit down. I was also not impressed with the stateroom service or menu. We waited an hour for a cookie and brownie assortment to be delivered and when it arrived it was a joke: two stale cookies and two small brownies....so much for assortment!
If you like hot midnight snacks this is not the ship for you. All there is, is pizza. Roomservice only has cold sandwhiches. The buffet not so impressive it seemed like it was the same things all the time, the only great thing about all the food was the desserts, which where abundant anywhere you ate. Comedy nights were fun!!! but the poker tournament was video texas holdem which really sucked!! The excursions where great and if you go to barbados take the seaturtle shipwreck excursion (not the five star catamaranone) its the best!!!!!! and in antigua highly recommend the stingray sensation, in dominka for your money the best excursion ever is the emerald pool water fall. This excursion was $36 and well well worth it!!!! We will be trying Royal Caribean next because the travel channel rated the freedom of the seas one of the best and the ports look great! if your a family destiny is the ship for you but if your single or couples not so much, even though the ports are great!!
Ship Quality easy to get around, clean
Dining/Food read my review
Stateroom Quality great room!!!! got a balcony and it was so worth it still alittle cramped though for two
Ship Staff Quality the ship staff were great!!!
Entertainment & Activities family activities in abundance, couples or singles not so much
Children's Programs dont have kids but the kids on ship seemed to be having a blast
